We’re thrilled to announce the newest Matthew Perry Foundation Fellow in Addiction Medicine at Mass General, Dr. Jyla Hicks.
Growing up in Columbus, OH, Dr. Hicks witnessed the disease of addiction firsthand, and it shaped her life’s work. Today, as a resident physician with Boston Medical Center’s “Faster Paths” program, she treats substance use disorder, leads harm-reduction initiatives, and advocates for incarcerated patients navigating recovery.
In her own words: “Addiction is not a failing, but more so a response to trauma & unmet needs. Recovery demands more than just clinical knowledge; it requires empathy, consistency, and culturally-informed care.”
This fellowship exists to train physicians who can lead, advocate, and close the gaps in addiction care, especially for communities that have long been underserved. Dr. Hicks embodies exactly that mission.
