A Few Words from
Doug and Lisa

We believe that no one who has the courage to fight substance use disorder should have to do it alone.  The Matthew Perry Foundation’s purpose is clear—to help as many people as possible on their journey to recovery.  The mission of our Grassroots Recovery Grants is to build a community of support to make a tangible difference in people’s lives. We are humble as we approach this work, and it’s an honor to create Matthew’s legacy. Matthew’s vision informs every level of the Foundation’s work.

We witnessed his courage as he battled the disease of addiction, but even more so, we witnessed his generosity. Matthew believed that reducing the stigma surrounding substance use disorder  allows people to pursue recovery on their own terms without judgment. He also loved helping people directly, where they are, and making a tangible difference. We are honored to continue his work through the Matthew Perry Foundation.

Matthew understood that recovery involves many steps, which is why the Foundation has adopted a holistic approach. Instead of focusing on a single aspect of recovery, the Foundation builds bridges across all stages, collaborating with individuals and organizations already doing vital community-level work.

The launch of the Grassroots Recovery Grants is the first defining moment for the Foundation, embodying Matthew’s commitment to compassionate, local support for those battling substance use disorders. This is just the beginning. Our first round of grantees operates at various stages of the recovery journey, across different communities, using diverse tools, strategies, and resources. Yet, they all share the same goal and are making a significant impact.

We don’t see these grants as a one-time contribution. Instead, we are forging lasting bonds between people and organizations, enabling them to support one another, share best practices, and amplify their efforts. Healing, as Matthew knew, begins with hope. The Foundation’s work, along with its grantees, is bringing that hope to as many lives as possible.

We are grateful to be a part of this important work.
