We were excited to host our inaugural Summit, hosted by CAA.This gathering brought together experts, advocates, and communities to advance real solutions. Clinton Global Initiative Co-Hosted Roundtable
September 24th - 25th 2025, New York City

The Matthew Perry Foundation was proud to be invited to the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, presented by President Bill Clinton, Secretary Hillary Clinton, and Dr. Chelsea Clinton, marking CGI’s 20th anniversary. This gathering brought together leaders from business, government, and civil society to tackle urgent global challenges. We were honored to co-host a roundtable discussion with CGI titled, “Ending Stigma: What Does It Look Like, and How Do We End It.” This vital conversation confronted stigma as both a wall and a weapon blocking access to care, costing people jobs, families, dignity and ultimately taking lives. On a stage where the world’s most pressing issues were being addressed, climate action, health equity, education, and more, we ensured that addiction and recovery were part of the conversation. By amplifying Matthew’s vision, we sparked partnerships, shaped narratives, and challenged leaders across every sector to dismantle stigma and build a future where recovery is possible for everyone.

Healing Appalachia

September 18th - 20th 2025, Lewisburg, West Virginia

The Matthew Perry Foundation was the presenting sponsor of Healing Appalachia, a nonprofit organization and annual sober music festival founded by musician Tyler Childers. It drew a record-breaking crowd of more than 30,000 attendees. The festival raised funds and awareness to combat the opioid crisis while connecting individuals with vital recovery resources, housing, and reentry services. Its mission is to fight the opioid epidemic, promote recovery, raise awareness, and build communities of healing throughout the Appalachian region. In addition, we supported Camp Grindstone, which provided below-the-line jobs to graduates of its recovery program. Together, these efforts helped more than 900 participants rebuild their lives, bringing resources, care, and connection to rural communities devastated by the opioid crisis.

NHL Goals for Recovery

September 20th - October 4th 2025, National Campaign

Through our partnership with the NHL, we were proud to launch Goals for Recovery, a campaign that transforms the energy and excitement of hockey into hope for those battling addiction. This is a natural partnership as Matthew was a passionate lifelong fan and was very involved with the League. For every goal scored during the preseason, the NHL and the Matthew Perry Foundation helped fund recovery services, directly supporting individuals and communities impacted by substance use disorder.

We anticipate this to be a long-term partnership, one that rallies players, fans, and communities to join our team in breaking down barriers to treatment and building a future where recovery is always within reach.

Matthew Perry Foundation Fellowship in Addiction Medicine at Mass General

January 28th 2025

The Matthew Perry Foundation Fellowship in Addiction Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is our first program to proudly bear Matthew Perry’s name. Led by Dr. Sarah Wakeman, a national leader in addiction medicine, this Fellowship exemplifies our commitment to reshaping how addiction is treated and perceived. Dr. Wakeman, the Medical Director of the Substance Use Disorder Initiative at MGH, is renowned for her innovative, evidence-based approaches to treating substance use disorder, particularly in marginalized and underserved communities. Under her guidance, this year-long program provides training on how to treat the disease, empowering physicians with the skills to lead, advocate, and address health disparities in the field of addiction medicine.

Our inaugural fellow, Dr. Sarah Kler, embodies this mission with her deep commitment to underserved populations and her steadfast advocacy for patients. Dr. Kler is gaining hands-on experience in innovative programs like the Bridge Clinic, HOPE Clinic, and inpatient Addiction Consult Team. By supporting this vital training, the Matthew Perry Foundation is helping to ensure that hope and healing remain within reach for countless individuals and families affected by substance use disorder, while honoring Matthew’s enduring legacy.

Grassroots Recovery Grants

May 29th 2024

The Grassroots Recovery Grants initiative, our inaugural program, empowered local organizations working tirelessly to combat substance use disorder within their communities. The program provided financial assistance to diverse groups that play a crucial role in offering hope and recovery to individuals affected by substance use disorder, but that may not have the resources or recognition often required to secure traditional funding.

Because the Foundation worked directly with community leaders and the state legislature to identify programs in dire need, these grants helped bridge gaps in people’s recovery journeys and fill them with support from leaders on the ground.

A Public Health Institute x Matthew Perry Foundation Collaboration

The Matthew Perry Foundation, in partnership with Dr. Andrew Herring, Highland Hospital, and the Public Health Institute, launched a transformative telehealth program to support incarcerated individuals suffering from opioid use disorder (OUD).

“Our reality is that it’s cheaper for the state to let those who are suffering die than to provide them the treatment they vitally need,” says Dr. Herring.

This stark truth drives the need for our groundbreaking initiative, which builds on the success of a local pilot at Santa Rita Jail, one of California’s largest. The pilot program has shown that connecting incarcerated individuals to addiction specialists before release significantly improves follow-up care and reduces the risk of overdose.
